After a morning of learning that inertia works much differently with running compared to biking, a nap, and some job apps, its off to watch the Euro Finals. Go Euro!
Listening to The Boss and having coffee in a neighborhood that I think I should live in. Oh, and finding all kinds of great places here I need to work at.
I just scheduled a 2nd interview for tuesday. That’ll be 6 interiews since I landed!
Info interviews are king!
Time to apply to more jobs!
Interview
This job will avg. 50 hrs a week, maybe more. No wonder its salaried. But full benefits!
Using music to pump myself up for my interview. And no, it is not the Final Countdown or Eye of the Tiger.
Between the movies/music/chat on my computer and maps on my phone, this bus is like flying Virgin. On the runway. In traffic.
life’s more fun when your bus has wifi
Uh oh
The hostel I stayed in DC before is sold out. Hopefully this one is OK.
Wow
I have an apartment to move into, a few job interviews and some more to schedule. I love this move.
Free!
Pizza and beer. How do places like this male money?
Belt buckles
My belt buckle store is going out of business, but I got 2 more for 80% off.
Wow
A call for another interview! This is why I moved.
And an info interview for Friday.
Woo! Job interview thursday!
Jazz
At the famous birdland watching some jazz drinking an over priced scotch. But I got an offer for an interview at one of my tier one jobs.
Lazy day
Its 5 and we just made it out of the house. There was a late breakfast of 99c frozen waffle and the best bacon money can buy followed by job apps while a kitten bit my toes.
Rain?
The picnic got rained out so we had lunch and went to Strand, the giant IDDD book store. Its been pouring on and off all day. Tonight is back I’m Brooklyn; ice scream social at Tollef’s warehouse.
3 am here in Brooklyn after a great BBQ and a fun house party time to bike back to manhattan and have a Picnic in the park tomorrow.
On bus to NYC
East coast is fun. I think I’ll be crossing 3 or 4 state lines today.
I just learned the bus only takes 2 pieces of luggage. I have 3. Time to play tetris.
I just realized: Instead of the SF Chronicle, my local paper is the Washington Post.
Just bought a ticket to NYC for Saturday. only $15. I had barely clicked “make payment” and my bank called to verify there wasn’t fraud involved.
Job?
I just finished interviewing with a temp agency. Maybe I can start working next week. Yay paycheck!
Got an apartment!
Its a month sublet not far from The Hill. It’ll give me a place to be while I job hunt.
Out and about
for $3 margaritas at my new Tuesday night hang out (I only had three, they’re in pint glasses). Hostel kids are great when you gather them up for a night on the town. I’ll be seeing some of these folks in nyc soon.
Today I’ve seen:
A tourist on a segway meet the wrong side of a curb and end ass up in the air (she was OK)
A girl walk with full attitude into a bucket of water (complete with shocked look of disgust and foot shake!)
More to come? I hope!
DC is amazing. There is a political temp agency for policy and campaign jobs.
End of day two
I learned some important things today, like the stack of white cloth at the foot of my bed is sheets. Makes it a bit more pleasant. (I was indeed tired last night) I think I forgot to mention that I looked at an apartment this morning. A cute rowhouse with a basement room. Pros are price and its only for a month to give me a chance to explore the area. Cons, its only for a month, unfurnished, and...
Had my first beer of the trip. Met up with a roommate of Jaclyn’s, Daniel, and headed to what I thought would be an awsome pub. They were out of the first 3 beers I asked for, and although they boasted over a hundred on their bottle list, nary had any.
But Daniel is a reportor for News Week, and gave me some tips on getting work (start with temp agencies) and I gave him a solid plan to get...
After a beautiful day of walking under sun and blue skies exploring potential neighborhoods to live in, the sky clouded and starting raining and thundering right after I got back. So much for touring george town this evening.
First night
I’m laying in bed for my first night. I walked into a dark room with 3 sleeping strangers. Its hot, so I don’t even need a sheet but I hope the conversations about bed bugs don’t concern this room.
