Great Weekend
I’m on my way back to DC after spending the weekend in NYC. The best part, I didn’t hang out with any of my NYC friends, but close friends from Cali. Ate probably my best meals since moving, saw the East River water falls, and saw MOMA again (Dali exhibit!) but the best part was company. Tomorrow I start the first day of my internship, should be completely awesome.
Ahh! Traffic! This is the lamest bus ride to NYC ever!
Updated from Yesterday
So yesterday my day on the Hill was quite successful. The plan was to drop resumes off at the 11 bay area democratic house representatives and go to the Senate placement office to submit my resume if anyone inquires. The resume drops went well. Had some positive hope that people might contact me about an internship soon but Woolsey’s office gave me an interview for an internship next...
Why is there US border patrol in DC? Keeping the continental US of A- ans out of the district? Forming a satellite border watch? Lost?
Before I came to DC I went to Sacramento and to do cold-call resume drops with all the democratic state senators. Today, I’m going to try something similiar with all the bay area representitives.
I need to find a good cobbler. A peach cobbler would be fantastic, but this is for my shoes.
Add to the interviews: I have one for a press internship in a couple hours. Good thing I now have a suit.
I just saw some very lecherous pigeons. And some very scared females.
I don’t have very much work lined up for this week. Time to schedule more info interviews. One this afternoon to start.
Living it Belgium style. Muscles and imported beer.
Enjoying illy in my backyard, watching birds chirp and reading a book. Who wants to visit?
Its raining, and I have my laptop with me. Good thing I found a lovely tea shop half a block from where I’m meeting friends in 1/2 hour.
I have wifi now at work. Amazing.
I’m watching loonie toons on the national mall with a thousand of my closest friends.
I like the rain here. When it rains it’s a cliché.
Dammit! I can’t find an IPA anywhere around here!
New software didn’t turn my phone into a bottle opener. Maybe was expecting too much.
Yay! Finally twitted on my phone again!
After looking at the sugar content, I realize that tonic water and lime juice is not the healthy alternative to a gin and tonic that I was looking for.
After coming home from work today I decided to give my running shoes a second try. Last time, I made it about seven blocks before getting distracted by a farmers market and heading home. Today I actually made it the 16 blocks to the Capitol building, and seeing the Washington Monument lurking in the distance I knew I couldn’t turn back.
The National Mall was full of young professionals...
I heard back a “no” from one of the jobs I interviewed for. It was only a 3 month temp position, with very low pay, and requiring 50-60 hour weeks (no overtime), so I’m not that dissapointed I missed out.
There is a trader joe’s right by where I’m temping. Bought a roast for dinner that I should be able to get a couple sandwiches and hopefully another dinner out of. I’m also hoping the next grocerry store I stop at has fair priced asparagus. I like that stuff.
Finished my second day if temping. Wow boring, but the person training is fun so that will make this week a bit better, she’s in vacation next week About to go to a UC alumni happy hour. Should be fun, I’m an alumni.
Woo! Its not even 7 am and I’ve applied to 3 jobs already, each one with someone at the organization that I know getting it. Off to temp; after a delicious cup of Illy.
Due to a bus delay, I got into DC after the subway closed. I’m taking a cab home rather than walk 4 miles in the middle of the night.
I’m excited to get back to DC and unpack the boxes my mom shipped to me this week. Hello stereo and not being cold at night! (aka, a blanket)
Taking the bus back to DC. Hopefully the driver will drop me off near my house so I don’t have to take a cab.
Just finished playing bike mechanic in Brooklyn
Off to NYC. Took a different bus CO. Should be a little quicker. Hopefully its not raining.
I love DC
Everyone I talk to, I can talk about politics!
